" hit blues
gold "
By Sarah Rodman-Boston Herald staff 7-15-00
The 15th annual Battle of the Blues Bands took place at
Harpers Ferry
and served as an excellent showcase for the best of the Hub's blues
scene. And the best, as determined by a panel of five judges: the seven
piece,Braintree based Part Time Lovers.
Five bands were given 30 minutes to strut their stuff in front of a
full house of dedicated blues fans and 5 judges, who scored them on
stage prescence, song selection, vocal ability and musicianship.
Part Time Lovers closed the night with a highly polished set of blues
and R&B, including "Everyday I Have the Blues" and "Shaky Ground."
The big band-seven pieces including horns and keyboards-is slick. Their
vibrant, always dancing frontman and blaring sax licks were clear crowd
favorites.
Like previous winners, Part Time Lovers won a passel of prizes, from
studio time, to a trip to compete in the National Blues Battle in
Memphis, Tenn.
